Indonesia is poised to launch a national cryptocurrency exchange by 2023. This news comes as the nation’s central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI), has been researching the use of digital assets for the past five years. The exchange would be the first of its kind in the world, and would potentially open up new opportunities for the country’s citizens and businesses.
The news was confirmed by Bank Indonesia’s deputy governor, Sugeng, who said that the new exchange will be fully regulated and supervised by the central bank. He added that it would be used to facilitate cross-border payments, and will also be used to trade digital assets. The exchange is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
